The video below illustrates how I created a tall hollow vessel called "Anemone Noir Encore".  This piece featured carved folds in the upper rim, stylized leaf patterns in the lower section and a textured remainder of the exterior.  The video runs just under 15 minutes and was rendered in 4K format as well as in  other lower resolutions.  It can also be viewed on my YouTube channel...

I will be conducting a studio demo at the HorseSpirit Arts Gallery on Saturday, October 2nd from 1-4pm as part of the current "Lines and Curves" exhibition.  Although no wood chips will be flying I will be discussing my woodturning experience and adding context to the pieces that I created for the exhibition and will be showing a short "start-to-finish" woodturning video that I have recently created.

The video can be viewed below.  Links to the exhibition and the Gallery are also included below.  I hope to see you there!

"Diaphanous Wicker Vessel" has been juried in to the Maryland Federation of Art's Winter Member Show that will run from January 5th thru January 21st, 2017.

This natural edge vessel was turned out of a piece of chestnut oak with a very thin wall thickness.  After air drying it was placed in a media blast cabinet where the soft early wood growth rings were abraded away leaving behind a partially pierced, 3-dimensional, wicker-like surface.  The piece measured out at a maximum diameter of 7 3/4", a height of 3 3/4" and a base diameter of 1 9/16".

"Diaphanous Wicker Vessel" will soon be available for purchase at the MFA's on-line sales gallery.  A link to the sales gallery will be located on that page.  Look for Tag#1 of 73 in the on-line gallery.

"Cosmic Jets" has been juried in to the Maryland Federation of Art's Small Wonders exhibition that will run from December 2nd thru December 26th, 2016.

The globe was turned from a single piece of bradford pear.  Both the upper and lower sections of the globe have been hollowed out to form what woodturners refer to as a "box".  The finials and pedestal were turned out of pieces of ebony.  The assembled turning was required to fit within a 7" x 7" x 7" cube to be eligible for the exhibition.  As displayed it is 6" wide by 6" tall by 3" deep.

"Cosmic Jets" is now available for purchase at the MFA's on-line sales gallery.  Look for Tag#1.

This vessel was turned out of a single piece of black walnut and is 12" in diameter and 7" high.  A band of carved patterns was painted with black milk paint which was lightly sanded and burnished to allow some of the walnut's figure to show through.

"Pentagonal Winged Bowl" has been jurored into the Maryland Federation of Art's Fall Member Show in Annapolis.  The wing features 3 cut sides, one natural edge with bark and one natural edge exposed.  The wing was turned with a slight upturn on each point to create the impression that it was in the process of flying off of the stand.  This piece was turned from a single piece of black walnut crotch wood.  It is approximately 13" wide x 14" high x 6" deep and is finished with a blend of tung oil and drying agents.  A custom stand (not shown in this photo) was crafted to allow both the front and back to be fully visible.

This turning can be purchased via the MFA's Fall Member's Show Sales Gallery. Look for tag# 4.  The exhibition runs from September 15th through October 8th, 2016.
