A number of exciting new turnings will be rolled out at this exhibition, including one turned from a natural edge chunk of recovered Ancient Kauri (agathis australis) that is over 30,000 years old.

Please consider taking time during this 2-week exhibition to check out this new turning, created from a section of a tree that was growing in New Zealand when mastodons, wooly rhinoceros's and sabre-toothed cats roamed the earth.

"Diaphanous Wicker Vessel" has been juried in to the Maryland Federation of Art's Winter Member Show that will run from January 5th thru January 21st, 2017.

This natural edge vessel was turned out of a piece of chestnut oak with a very thin wall thickness.  After air drying it was placed in a media blast cabinet where the soft early wood growth rings were abraded away leaving behind a partially pierced, 3-dimensional, wicker-like surface.  The piece measured out at a maximum diameter of 7 3/4", a height of 3 3/4" and a base diameter of 1 9/16".

"Diaphanous Wicker Vessel" will soon be available for purchase at the MFA's on-line sales gallery.  A link to the sales gallery will be located on that page.  Look for Tag#1 of 73 in the on-line gallery.

Please join us for the show reception on January 15th, 2017 between 3:00pm and 5:00pm.

"Cosmic Jets" has been juried in to the Maryland Federation of Art's Small Wonders exhibition that will run from December 2nd thru December 26th, 2016.

The globe was turned from a single piece of bradford pear.  Both the upper and lower sections of the globe have been hollowed out to form what woodturners refer to as a "box".  The finials and pedestal were turned out of pieces of ebony.  The assembled turning was required to fit within a 7" x 7" x 7" cube to be eligible for the exhibition.  As displayed it is 6" wide by 6" tall by 3" deep.

"Cosmic Jets" is now available for purchase at the MFA's on-line sales gallery.  Look for Tag#1.

Please join us for the Small Wonders Reception on December 8th from 6:00-8:00pm at MFA's Circle Gallery at 18 State Circle, Annapolis, Maryland.  The awards ceremony will be held at 7:00pm.

"40th Choice" has been donated to the Maryland Federation of Art for their annual Collector's Choice fundraising event to be held on October 23rd.  This piece is currently on display at the MFA's Circle Gallery in downtown Annapolis along with 154 pieces of art donated by local artists.

This vessel was turned out of a single piece of black walnut and is 12" in diameter and 7" high.  A band of carved patterns was painted with black milk paint which was lightly sanded and burnished to allow some of the walnut's figure to show through.

"Pentagonal Winged Bowl" has been jurored into the Maryland Federation of Art's Fall Member Show in Annapolis.  The wing features 3 cut sides, one natural edge with bark and one natural edge exposed.  The wing was turned with a slight upturn on each point to create the impression that it was in the process of flying off of the stand.  This piece was turned from a single piece of black walnut crotch wood.  It is approximately 13" wide x 14" high x 6" deep and is finished with a blend of tung oil and drying agents.  A custom stand (not shown in this photo) was crafted to allow both the front and back to be fully visible.

This turning can be purchased via the MFA's Fall Member's Show Sales Gallery. Look for tag# 4.  The exhibition runs from September 15th through October 8th, 2016.
